Play an online Giving Game today

You can help a great charity with just a few minutes and an open mind.  We'll supply the money.

Video Giving Games

You'll be given a choice between two great charities.  After watching a TED talk relevant to that choice, you tell us which charity you think should get the donation.  Each game will end after 25 people have voted.  We'll make the donation to the winning charity, and post the results on this site.  Each of these games will result in a donation of $250.

Mosquitos, Malaria, and Education
Why do we spend more money on baldness cures than we do fighting malaria?  What's the value of a great teacher?  Watch Bill Gates answer these questions and others, then vote between the Against Malaria Foundation and the Knowledge is Power Program.

The Generosity Experiment
Sasha Dichter is an innovative philanthropist, so he typically looks for better opportunities than whatever homeless person might happen to be nearby.  Then he decided to say "yes" for a month, to every request he received.  Hear how this experience changed his perception of generosity.  Then vote between the Acumen Fund (a social investment fund where Dichter serves as Chief Innovation Officer) and GiveDirectly, an organization that at a simple level gives money to poor people, in the form of cash grants to poor households in Kenya.

You are the Future of Philanthropy
It's never been easier for an individual to change the world through philanthropy.  Katherine Fulton describes some of the ways philanthropy is evolving to meet society's needs, and why you can make a big difference without a lot of money.  You can prove she's right by voting (free of charge, naturally) between two charities that are enabling this revolution.  Pick between Donors Choose, which matches teachers needing classroom funding with donors, and GiveWell, a non-profit providing outstanding free charity research to donors.

You Can Buy Happiness

...if you spend your money on others.  Michael Norton explains why winning the lottery might not make you happy, but giving to charity probably will.  People derive pleasure from giving, regardless of how much the gift is needed.  People happily donate to the Gates Foundation to support its health and education programs, unfazed by the fact that the Gates Foundation has so much money, they don't want new donations.  Against Malaria Foundation can buy an additional bed net with each marginal $5 donation.  Vote between the Gates Foundation and AMF, and let us know how happy you feel about your choice!

Completed Giving Games

This game has finished, and we've made the donations chosen by the players, but you can still play for fun and test your skill at determining how effective charities are.

Do it Yourself Charity Assessment
Can YOU tell which nonprofits will have the most impact?  You'll read brief descriptions of various nonprofits, and test your intuition about whether their programs will have beneficial results.  This game will result in a donation of $200, and will take about 10 minutes to complete.
