Teaching Effective Philanthropy through Giving Games

Giving Games are an innovative form of philanthropy education.  Giving Game participants are introduced to a few pre-vetted charities, reflect on and discuss their relative merits, and are provided funds to make a real donation to their favorite.  This model helps people learn about highly effective charities and valuable donor resources, and encourages them to achieve as much impact as possible with their charitable giving.

A Path That's Clear served as an incubator for Giving Games, and the project is now being brought to scale by The Life You Can Save, a non-profit promoting action against extreme poverty through effective philanthropy.  Visit The Life You Can Save's Giving Game program for the latest news about Giving Games and for a resource library that includes everything you'll need to run your own Giving Game.

Charitable decisions are important, but difficult to make.  Why not practice them?

Giving Games are a way to help current and future donors find outstanding giving opportunities that match their values.  Finding a "good" charity isn't enough- players need to think about the criteria they'll use to determine which charity is "better".  By encouraging thoughtful and strategic giving, Giving Games can help channel charitable resources where they will do the most good.

"Every genuine experience of moral doubt and perplexity in which we ask 'What should I do?'
takes place in a situation where good conflicts with good."

Charles Johnson, Notes on a Personal Philosophy of Life
